Is a Wooden Storage Bench Right for Me?

Many people suffer from the problem known as "too much stuff". It isn't just an American problem, either; the fact of the matter is that our fast food culture and love affair with advertising has endowed us with far too many possessions that matter little in the grand scheme of things yet proliferate wildly year after year until we find that our house is simply filled with too many DVDs for the DVD rack, too many CDs for the CD rack, too many shoes for the shoe tree, too many tools for the tool box and so on and so on until we all share a common bond as pack rats of variable extremes. This horrific situation has given rise to yet another consumer niche that itself makes billions each year: Storage and organizational aids. The problem, though, is that many of these boxes, bags, and other storage devices look just as tacky and unappealing as the pile of things that they're trying to organize! Fortunately, there are some ways around this problem and one of the finest is that of the wooden storage bench.

A wooden storage bench can solve the problem of too much stuff while also allowing you to keep the atmosphere or mood of your room intact. This is due to the fact that you can simply act as if the bench is a piece of furniture in its own right that can complement any room that its in. This is in many ways true and even more applicable in this day and age when wooden storage benches are available in countless different styles, colors, and sizes. Remember when you were a child and you had a toy box? You probably could have cared less about how the toy box helped bring the room together but you were no doubt thrilled at the fact that you had all of your toys in one location. Now consider your wooden storage bench as the complete opposite of your childhood toy box. Instead of being happy that you have all your possessions grouped into one convenient location (although this is a nice aspect), you should concern yourself with how your wooden storage bench looks in relation to all the other pieces of furniture in your room.

In short, a good rule of thumb for your wooden storage bench is to choose a kind of wood that matches or at least goes with the other pieces of wood furniture in your room. Cherry and walnut go well together as do pine and nearly everything else. Keep in mind that you can choose from an array of finishes or even paint your wooden storage bench if you wish. In the end, it is wholly up to you to decide exactly how you want to proceed with your bench. If anybody who visits has a problem with that then you can simply tell them to go out and buy their own bench and put it in their own home.
