White Storage Bench Tips

A white storage bench may appear to some to be tacky and a bit out of place but, with a healthy dose of interior design knowledge and a bit of practicality, it is entirely possible to have a white storage bench that not only fits within your room scheme but even compliments it. There are a few things you'll want to be mindful of, though, to ensure that you don't fall prey to the trappings that snatch up even the most well meaning decorators.

First of all, a white storage bench should not be placed outside. This is common knowledge to people in the business but you'd be surprised how many amateur home furnishers will foolishly place something as easily tarnished as a white storage bench outside on either the front or back porch. Doing so invites countless threats to your bench and the contents that it holds. Rain and weathering of course will strip away the exterior of your bench while the things that you store within will be nearly equally ruined. Remember that the bench is white and that white is the one color that has no business being outside. Anybody who has ever owned a pair of white sneakers knows what I'm talking about; it is far too easy to ruin a pure, pristine white color with the ravaging that nature unleashes upon everything it touches.

Let's go ahead and assume that your walls are painted in some form of white just like the vast majority of American homes. If this is the case then you're in luck because you are offered much more leeway in where you can store your white storage bench. On the other hand, don't fret if you have green or yellow walls. The fact of the matter is that white often complements a background color provided the color is solid. A bench that is an eggshell white can have surprising success with a pink or blue wall and thus you may want to put your storage bench in the baby's room if you have one. If you are thinking about storing your bench in a room that has wallpaper, however, you may want to second guess yourself. If the wall paper is lined either vertically or horizontally you might be okay but anything too busy or plentiful can take away from both the wall and the bench and you could end up in far worse position.

Another important question you'll have to ask yourself is whether or not you'll be draping some kind of fabric over your white storage bench. This is important because you may be able to effectively change the entire look of your bench with nothing more than a smart looking afghan blanket. Remember that just because you have a white storage bench doesn't mean you have to leave it as it is. This is your home and your life and you are free to play around with the aesthetics of your property however you see fit.
