Deciding on an Outside Bench
Many people think that benches only belong in bus stops and
parks. These people are woefully unaware of the fact that a bench in or around your home can often create new and
exciting levels of grandeur and class that would otherwise be unaccessible to homeowners unless they splurged on a
pricey chandelier or incredibly ornate silverware. That is the ultimate appeal of a bench: It brings a touch of
class to the home without breaking the bank in the process. There are a few simple guidelines, however, when it
comes to making sense of this bench business. For one, it is not usually a good idea to go with a bench inside your
home unless it is the storage type of bench that allows you to put some of your loose clutter away in one neat and
tidy place. These benches can add some class to the home as well but many of the nicer ones may be inordinately
expensive for your tastes and the cheaper ones simply don't look very impressive. Outside benches, then, are the
best way to go about improving the appearance of your home and it is this niche that can provide great products for
a reasonable price.
You'll first want to decide what kind of outside bench you'll want for your home. In general, they fall into
three categories: Plastic, wood, and metal. Plastic benches are of course the least expensive but they are also the
least impressive. On the other hand, the fact that your bench will be outdoors means that it will be subject to the
effects of nature and weather. Any bench you buy will inevitably come to harm from rain, sun, and other adverse
weather conditions and there is some comfort in the fact that, should your plastic bench be blown away or destroyed
in a storm, you didn't pay much for it and it is extremely replaceable.
A wooden outside bench is definitely classier than a plastic bench, however, and the extra money you pay for it
will in fact make up for itself thanks to the durability of the product. Remember that many advancements have been
made in terms of weatherproofing wood products and you can conceivably have a beautiful wooden bench that stands up
to the elements with ease and dignity. Wooden benches also go very well with gardens when you are trying to create
a nature theme. Be warned, though: Wood is so natural that it often falls prey to the nature that it comes from. In
other words, insects and other creatures may wreak havoc on your wooden outdoor bench over time.
If you can afford it, a metal outside bench is the best way to go for many people. Keep in mind that this
doesn't mean you should buy an aluminum or tin bench. Those metals are essentially worthless and will look even
worse than a plastic bench. The metal we're talking about is steel or something of similar strength and the benches
we're talking about are the type that are ornately designed with greek and roman inspiration. Look for a bench in
which the arm kind of curls into a spiral and the back is flat but with checkerboard or some sort of similar
inlays. Many of these metal benches in fact have wooden beams that act as either seat backs, seats, or both.
Remember that you can pick and choose in some cases and this may be the best option for you.
